I have yet again visited your website after a few years!! Just delightful! Some comments/questions... from your guestbook... make you smile and evoke memories of yesteryear! May I state that I am indeed pleased that I was primarily raised/graduated in Weare...how I would have enjoyed teaching students with the same ratio of teacher/students that taught me!!:-) I have not missed too many years of visiting my roots since making our home in Texas in 1973! Yes, I live in Texas but the dirt beneath my fingernails is from Weare, NH!!

I'm seeing lots of questions in the guestbook from people out of the area. As a resident of Weare, Let me see if I can answer a few - starting with the latest.. Lakeview Ski area - see http://www.nelsap.org/nh/lakeview.html North Weare - Yes, at one time there was North Weare (Currently, the Northern Part of River RD/Rt 77). There was also a South Weare, Weare Center, East Weare. Old timer humor.. People who lived in North Weare lived "nowhere/no. weare". Peple who live in New Boston (just south of us) live in underwear (they live under W eare). Why should you visit Weare? You shouldn't. We are not a tourist trap. We are a nice rural community, where people still know their neighbor and help each other out. We have two mini grocery stores, 2 hardware stores, one lumber yard. 4 places to get gas. We have 2 camp grounds and one vacation place on a lake. We do not have lots of flashy stores or fancy signs. We cut our own fire wood, grow our own food, and compost our own left overs. Redistricting - typical Goffstown ploy. Massachusetts residents took over that town and turned it into a commuter town for the city when real estate got to expensive down there. They lost respect for the land and the people who live here. Now they attempt to gain further control over our town by stealing our seats at the state legislature (they have more voters in the area than we do).

Hi! I've been researching my ancestry and discovered I'm a direct descendant of Elizabeth Weare (b. 5 Jan 1658, dau. of Hon. Nataniel Weare and Eliz. Swain) and Thomas Cram, through their son Thomas Cram, Jr. and his wife Mary Brown. To make the long brances shorter...my Great grandmother was Elizabeth Cram, dau. of Perry Cram and Mary Anne Sculley (Perry and Mary were married in Londonderry in 1860, and left almost immediately to drive cattle across the plains to California, eventually settling in Southern Oregon). I tried to click on the link to the Weare Historical Society and was blocked. I'd love to know more about Judge Weare and how Weare, NH is related to him (is it?) You have such a beautiful spot in the world, and I wonder why Perry and Mary ever left (there MUST be a story there). Thanks for the site. Sara

What kind? etc. I am looking for information on this area to share with www.nelsap.org a website dedicated to the preservation of the memory of ski areas that once existed in New England and dedicated in the attempt to keep smaller areas from joining the ranks of "Lost". At least two of his sons and one son-in-law were among the rioters. Jonathan is my fifth ggfather. I visited Weare in the 1970,s and plan to return this summer to see the cemeteries and get a general feel for the area. I'm researching the family of Hiram Shepcott Marble, which includes his grandfather, Jonathon Marble and grandmother, Anna Shepcott. It's possible that they moved from Hampton (state?) to Lot 28, Range 4 about 1770. By 1888 they had left, with a Wm Tenny owning and residing at that spot. The book, "The History of Weare, New Hampshire", mentioned this information, as well stating that Jonathan Marble was a QUAKER. Who would I contact with regard to finding out more information about the settlers (especially Quakers) in your area for the year 1770? If you know of anyone interested in the genealogy of the Marble, Doty or Stewart families of the area, please write me at annlee@provide.net Thanks.

I look foward to it as alot of others do! Thanks Bernie!! P.s I have sent others to read your information and they are very interested to learn more! Please keep us updated on responses from E.Twomey and Atty.General Philip McLaughlin. I have written to Mr.McLaughlin asking what he plans to do about this. Weare appears to fill their requirements and I will look forward to seeing your town soon. The only suggestion for your web site would be a map of the major highways surrounding Weare and major streets within Weare. In response to Bernie's comments of the scandal concerning the Weare Police Department... 1)One Selectman, Douglas Hatch, did vote to fire Officer Carney. 2)The Selectmen could not discipline the officers for their wrong doing because the Police Chief had already done so. One should do their research of the laws involved before judging those who swore an oath and did uphold it!!!!!!

The entire thing that has gone on with the Weare Police Department is getting extremely old. I have become friends with quite a few officers and i just want to make it clear that they aren't the bad guys that everyone has made them out to be. Yes, they did make some mistakes in the past but everyone makes mistakes at some point in their life. Tim Cox for example. Many people feel he should be taken off the force. Since he has become an officer he has made numerous arrests, saved two peoples lives and helped to make this town a better place. He has shown through his actions that he HAS earned his spot on the force. I feel people should realize people make mistakes, and yes they should be punished, but saying they should loose their badge, that to me just isn't right...

I don't understand where Bastian gets his information from for his "world". He shows that he really isn't in this world with his comments. Police Officers have always been allowed to take "evidence" that is being thrown out home with them. THis inculdes beer. Last I knew, you had to be 21 years old to possess alcohol so that would make everyone legal. So if you are given something that is to be thrown out then you are not stealing anything. If you drink three or four over a couple of hours you might have an alcohol content of .03%, well under the legal limit. If you violate a town policy, you get diciplined and move on, not talk about it a year after the fact. The bottom line is if what those hard working men did was so wrong, why didn't the Attorney General's Officer, Police Standards and Training or the Town of Weare move to remove them from police work. The bottom line is because what they did wasn't a big deal, it is only made a big deal by people who have nothing better to do than make something out of nothing. MS, Weare, NH

If we have an industry in out town it would cut the taxes and the school board wouldn't threaten us with the Claremont Law Suit. I disagree with our motto "A part of yesterday in touch with Tomorrow". We are not in touch with tomorrow!

I found this site interesting. It has come a long way since the last time I checked it out. I don't particularly care for "Bernies World", but maybe it's because its all of his opinion and no one elses?? Some discussion would be interesting on many subjects in this town. I live in this town and would like to see the town work problems out instead of blasting each other out of the water all the time.

YIPEE! we are coming back to Weare! Presently reside in the flat, parched, deforested housing jungle of Denton,TX. Yes, there are stores galore here--strip malls on every corner.it's a consumer's paradise--the plastic bags & cans on the roadsides prove it. There are wonderful cultural events, if you're willing to brave the floods of hell-bent drivers & carjackers. I've heard it even rains here. Yep, tornado alley is an interesting spot to hail from (!). We do live in a wonderful neighborhood---housing is spacious & cheap--folks very friendly. Our house has twice the sq. footage & half the taxes as our Weare house. But, then again, the soul needs nourishment, & for us it is the gentle New Hampshire hills, a slower paced lifestyle & the nuturing environment of small-town life. Looking forward to seeing one & all!

Every year for more than 10 years, my family spent the last two weeks of August at Colburn Cottages on Lake Horace. My parents (and all their friends from Westport, CT) would take over the complex at this time. I grew up as part of Colburn's Navy -- all of the kids out on the lake in little rowboats with 3 HP motors. It was the only vacation I ever knew, and one of my best loved memories. I remember travelling to Henniker (the only one on earth!) for supplies, and stopping at Crosby's Market on our way into the cottages for absolute essentials (including root beer!) I learned to waterski on Lake Horace when I was 6 or 7 and had to wear my sneakers in my ski boots. Although I didn't recognize it at the time, I now realize what a great vacation place we had found. I hope to visit Weare soon. Vicki (Betts) McDonald

Hello! My name is Shelley. I really enjoyed your web site & it was more helpful than you know... 2 of my oldest & dearest friends have moved to Weare as of 8/31/97!!! Carol & Dave have moved to River Road in Weare, and I have been trying to convince my girlfriend Carol of the merits of the Net so I thought it would be a nice way to show her and also a surprise to send her some information about her new hometown from the Net. I was so happy to print out all the "stuff" from you site!!! (One day, I'll get to move there myself!) I really appreciated your site. I was a little disappointed that a couple of links weren't yet up & running, but, that's all the more reason to visit again! One thing, I was surprised not to find a link or any info on Al Jones (the guy who, with his family, has the 1 yr. old lion) - Carol is a HUGE animal lover and already a fan of The Jones Family & their lion from newspaper stuff she has read. I guess I just assumed they'd be here somewhere. Anybody have anything on them???? Lastly, Carol & David are brand new, and tho I know they will make many new friends, they don't really know anybody yet, so if anybody is online in a friendly way in Weare, if they want to send me any messages to welcome them, I'd be delighted to print & send them. I want them to know just how friendly cyber space in Weare can be!!! (Not much on the event calander, so if anybody has ANY info of community things, anything welcome.) Thank you and Happy Autumn to all of Weare!!! Seagull84@AOL.com

I elected to re-visit this site and was pleasantly surprised -- nice work! Everything looks great and opens quite well, I'm impressed! I'd like to tell your visitors about something new coming to Weare. A Weare newspaper. A free monthly newspaper is coming to Weare in October 1997. The newspaper is called: "The Weare Register" and is slated to hit newsstands the first week of October. "The Weare Register" is published by Sherry Butt Dunham of Weare. The primary focus of this new publication is to provide community news coverage to the community of Weare exclusively! This newspaper is writen, produced and distributed by Weare residents for the fine people of Weare. Announcements, comments, press releases and event listings are welcome -- look for us at the newsstand in October.

My entire family is from Rhode Island. About 6 years ago, my brother, Chris, moved to Weare. Last year, my parents followed. (I believe it was my father who made up the slogan for the town that I see on your web page!) I am planning to move my family to your lovely town within the next year. We love Weare! Interesting website. Was hoping to find some information about the pine tree rebellion in your history of the town. I had no idea it had had two names prior to Weare. I lived in Weare for 5 years.

We were so happy to find your Webpage. We are planning a visit to the area in JUly and can not wait to do some vacationing and family research. My family, Jedediah DOW owned one of the first farms in Weare in 1772 (lot #35, Range #5), he also was a Selectman for many years, so this is going to be exciting for me. Could you send some info on places to stay in Weare? We will be there the last two weeks of July. Dale & Claire (Dow-Lemieux) DeCecco

Just browsing and located your site. My family has been vacationing on Lake Horace for over 25 years. We first began staying a t Hi-Point Cabins, I beleive the Russell family owned them. However they sold out and we began staying at Coburn's. This year we did not secure a cabin and are now currently looking for an alternate place to stay. Maybe someone can put us in touch with someone who can help us locate a house or cabin directly on the lake so we can fish and swim. My father in law was really looking forward to vacationing on the lake, as he has not been back up there in some years. Thank you, you really do have a nice town.

HI! Why not have the government page include information regarding state officials (senator & representatives) as well? That way, people could figure out who to contact if they have an issue related to the town/state on a broader level. Otherwise, I'm happy to see that Weare has its own site - keep up the good work! Ciao

I don't mean to clog up your guestbook, but I just can't help commenting on the entry by S.D. from Concord since it gave me such a giggle. A web page is not a "sight", it is a "site". S.D. from Concord really needs to take some spelling lessons and then proofread their guestbook entries in the future. Especially if they are being critical of another on the same issue. I just want WeareWeb to know that I think this is a great service to the town with lots of great information, and to please keep up the great work!

The spelling on this sight is horrible. Especially the "school areas" and it's not updated. Someone really needs to take some spelling lessons and then it should be proofread before you put it on your sight. It just makes your company look bad.
